Dear Ava, Dear Ava, Dear Ava (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
You are strong. You are worthy. You are important. You deserve justice.
First, I want to start off by saying, I read some reviews that say that the author didn’t do a good job of addressing the sexual assault that happens in the book. That it was glossed over once they found out who the perpetrator was. That’s not my opinion at all. From the very beginning; the first chapter is her waking up after it has happened. The confusion. The resilience. The sheer strength of her as a person. You see her struggle with anxiety, with questioning herself, with the slut-shaming that follows, the lack of follow through from police because the town it happened in is run by rich powerful families, the author writes the book in such a way that you can just see the grace with which Ava handles the whole encounter. You can also see just how much Ava is changed by it all, because she is changed by it. Something was taken from her that she did not freely give, stolen.
The relationship between Knox and Ava is an interesting one. It starts before she's assaulted and still with the boyfriend that she had at the time who happens to be Knox's bestfriend. Their chemistry is off the charts. He brings her out of her shell, she feels comfortable being herself with him. Knox is also dealing with his own trauma and the responsibilty of taking care of his brother who is struggling with his own mental health and remembering what happened the night Ava was assaulted. Knox and Ava both, try to be everything for the people that matter in their lives. There is a lot of depth to both MCs. They are very well written.
the author does an excellent job ot detailing how Ava is affected in the aftermath of her assault. As well as how others are affected. Chance has a lot of guilt (the ex), love for Ava still, feels responsible for what happened that night, feels guilty for how he responded in the aftermath, and wants forgiveness. Dane can't remember, struggles with his own mental health, questions if he had something to do with what happened, feels conflicted because he likes Ava, and wants to protect her. Knox feels responsible for what happened, guilty for not realizing, angry and exuding violence at the thought of somebody hurting Ava, wants to protect her, wants to get her justice, and feels so much love for Ava.
